CBD Climate In The US

0

This article was written in early 2019, there’s no doubt a few things may have changed in this rapidly increasing industry.

CBD, or CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of the two most prominent molecules found in the cannabis plant. CBD doesn’t have the psychoactive properties that THC has. THC is the component in marijuana that makes you feel “high”, where as, CBD is known for its calming and healing properties. CBD has been researched and shown to have positive effects on anxiety, pain, insomnia, PTSD, and so much more. In June 2018, the FDA cleared a medicine called Epidiolex, which is comprised of CBD and is used to treat rare and aggressive forms of epilepsy.

Although CBD has been around the consumer marketplace for some time, it only just recently boomed in popularity. CBD oil is popping up on every street corner in one form or the other. By itself CBD oil isn’t all that popular as its taken orally through a dropper and is generally a bitter and unappealing to taste. CBD infused products are plenty and broad. Everything from foot cream to gummy bears are being infused with CBD

New products are popping up almost every second of the day. The growth that the CBD market as experienced all within a short time span has been ridiculous! CBD dispensaries are popping up on street corners all over the US and online sales of things such as CBD infused bath bombs and coffee are off the charts. CBD even has its own cryptocurrency and blockchain. People are becoming overnight millionaires and CBD businesses are climbing the Forbes List.

Edibles are the major cash cow of the CBD market. Gummies and candies are becoming a fan favorite and can be picked up at your neighborhood gas station. Coffee shops are selling infused lattes and restaurants are selling food that has been infused and then cooked. The edible business is booming but regulation might just cause it to slow…

With no day-to-day regulation on CBD many companies have “back-seated” quality in favor of quantity. Between discovering that 7 major CBD companies had very little to no CBD but rather had higher amounts of THC and a large brand of CBD gummies testing positive for harmful amounts of lead, the FDA cracked down on CBD infused edibles. This eventually lead to the FDA calling a ban to CBD edibles and that it is illegal to sell. New York was the first to carry out this ban and will start fining establishments who are selling these products. This of course isn’t permanent. Companies will have a period for “education” where they can continue to sell their product while they learn and transition to the FDA’s regulations.

If the edible ban has you down, never fear! There are infinite amounts of body care products that are being infused with CBD. Sephora, one of the top makeup companies, has just announced that it intends to roll out a skin care series infused with CBD oil. Along with makeup, companies are releasing foot creams, acne washes, and just about everything in a Bed, Bath, and Beyond store. Which is ironic because a recent retail chain has open up in , the Midwest claiming to be just that. A Bed, Bath, and Beyond but for CBD.

CBD has also had an adverse effect on Hemp production. The US has very little regulation on CBD but one requirement is that the THC content of the oil has to be below .3%. Hemp is different from the marijuana plant in that it contains very minimal THC in its makeup and a larger CBD population. So to adhere to the US regulation, CBD is being extracted from hemp rather than marijuana. So with the boom of the CBD industry, the hemp industry is pulled along for the ride. In a recent Motley Fool article, it was reported China had nearly $1.2 billion in hemp sales (which led all countries), followed by the United States at $1 billion, the whole of Europe at $980 million, and Central and South America at $220 million. However, by 2022, New Frontier Data’s report estimates U.S. hemp sales will have jumped to $2.6 billion. Of this $2.6 billion in hemp sales, half of all hemp sales will be generated from hemp extracted CBD.

CBD does have genuine medical and health benefits and it is a major boom to the marketplace. The possibilities for CBD are endless and I don’t see the industry slowing down anytime soon, even when regulation hits. In the meantime, while regulations are setting in make sure you do your research before you start any new CBD product. Go with a company who has had a proven past and can guarantee quality. You might even want to dabble in CBD business. Don’t be caught sleeping while the next period of “The Green Gold Rush” passes.

Did You Know Snoop Dogg Was Cameron Diaz’s Weed Dealer In High School?

Did you know Cameron Diaz and Snoop Dogg went to high school together? And that’s just the beginning of their connection.

Finding a “weed guy” is an entirely fundamental part of cannabis culture. If you want to smoke you’ve got to have your hook up.

Every once in a while a weed guy goes big time and becomes an all-out sensi celebrity. What better example of this then the king of cannabis himself, Snoop Dogg?

From local Long Beach weed guy to rap superstar to ganja mogul, Snoop’s built his entire career on a solid foundation of marijuana.

And as it turns out, Snoop’s pot-infused life involves the lives of other celebrities in some kind of interesting ways. One of the coolest cannabis connections between Snoop and other celebrities is his little known past as Cameron Diaz’s high school weed dealer.

This connection came to light when Cameron Diaz was a guest on the now-defunct nighttime talk show “Lopez Tonight,” which was hosted by comedian George Lopez.

On the show, Diaz said that when she was a teen, she attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School, the same school Snoop went to.

Diaz was one year behind the up-and-coming rapper, and apparently, Snoop was her pot hook up.

And the response..

“I remember him, he was very tall and skinny and wore lots of ponytails,” Diaz said. “And I’m pretty sure I bought weed from him.”

A short time later, it was Snoop’s turn to be a guest on Lopez’s show. While he was on stage, Lopez played the clip of Diaz talking about her days of buying bud from Snoop as a high schooler.

Snoop laughed and said: “I might have sold her some of that white girl weed,” which he jokingly explained was just “sticks and stems and seeds.”

Snoop and Diaz are just two names on a growing list of celebrity pot smokers.

Although they might be the first celebrities to have ever had a dealer-buyer relationship.

Other well-known celebrity stoners include Seth Rogen—who just started his own YouTube ganja show.

Check Out This Funny Interview with the Snoop Dogg himself!

Miley Cyrus, Willie Nelson, Wiz Khalifa, Melissa Etheridge, Freddie Gibbs, and Woody Harrelson.

As for Snoop, he’s moved from rapping and singing about marijuana to becoming an actual cannapreneur, capitalizing on weed’s move into the legal mainstream.

Toward the end of 2015, Snoop hosted a sampling party at his own personal cannabis plantation. At the party, guests tried a new, super-high THC strain developed by Snoop himself.

And at the beginning of February, he announced plans to team up with Toronto-based marijuana producer Tweed to move into the Canadian cannabis market.

Looks like Snoop’s getting ready to be the weed guy for a lot more people than just Cameron Diaz.

I just want say a big thank you to Scott, founder of MyPharmJar, who reached out prior to releasing Version 2.0 and introduced me to the MyPharmJar collection. I received the following:

This is the first I have heard of Miron and the benefits it can bring to your herbs. I’m currently curing some Strawberry Banana, I didn’t grow this although it’s cured so nicely since I’ve put it into the 100ml jar I received which is by far my favorite as it’s perfect for travel or if you don’t have much space in your room.

IMG 0848 The Weed Blog - Cannabis Education & News
MyPharmJar 1 Liter Miron Glass Jar

As you can see the jar is dark and barely let’s in light if any at all, when held up to the sun the jars walls shine purple [do not look into sun] and the the jar itself is what I find, lower than room temperature – unfortunately the smaller one I received does not have a sensor lid, that would be cool if it did – maybe 3.0 MyPharmJar? I’ll talk more future concepts after the review!

In the 1 Liter Jar, I have some Purple Haze which is not from anywhere particular, just the local dude. I’ve had this in the jar curing for the past week and I have certainly have seen and noticed a difference, especially in the visual aesthetics and the flavor from my herbs.

Add a Boveda 2-Way Humidity Pack into your jar and you’re on the road to preserving herbs, if you’re in Australia or other warmer parts of the world the sun can damage our herbs and papers, I look forward to this year being the first year where that all isn’t ruined by our beautiful sun.

Growers..

For the ones who are currently harvesting and curing their buds for Croptober! look no further, MyPharmJar offer the 1L Jar with a sensor lid or in a pack of 8x here to accommodate for the heavy weights.

Future Ideas.

It would be awesome to see the MyPharmJar collection feature jars with LED lights, could be a soft purple, once you open the lid the tiny LEDs activate allowing you to see your herbs or simply a button.

California Seizes $30 Million In The Cannabis Black Market

0

California authorities have tripled the number of raids on unlicensed cannabis shops in the last year and seized $30 million in pot products, but legal industry leaders say enforcement is still inadequate to break the dominance of the black market in the state.

In 2018, the first year of licensing, the state Bureau of Cannabis Control worked with local law enforcement to serve six search warrants on unlicensed pot shops and seized some 1,594 pounds of cannabis worth $13.5 million.

During the first six months of this year, the bureau served 19 search warrants on unlicensed sellers, confiscating more than 2,500 pounds of illegal marijuana products with a retail value of $16.5 million, according to data released last week. The state has also seized $219,874 in cash from illegal pot shops.

The Weed Blog - Cannabis Education & News
Remember these guys? ?

And to further strengthen enforcement, Gov. Gavin Newsom this month authorized fines of up to $30,000 per day against unlicensed marijuana growers, distributors and sellers.

“We recognize the importance of enforcement for a strong regulated cannabis industry and continue to partner with local jurisdictions to address issues related to unlicensed cannabis businesses,” said Lori Ajax, chief of the state bureau.

But industry officials say there are still thousands of illegal cannabis growers and sellers in California, a black market some predicted would be curbed when California voters approved Proposition 64 in 2016, allowing state-licensed firms to grow and sell marijuana for recreational purposes.

Despite the uptick in enforcement efforts, the number of actions so far “is severely inadequate,” according to the California Cannabis Industry Assn.

There are thousands of unlicensed retailers operating so there should have been at least hundreds of enforcement actions so far, said Lindsay Robinson, executive director of the association, who noted many illegal pot shops are easy to find because they advertise.

“California has always struggled with enforcement of the illicit industry,” Robinson said.

The state had a year to create a new bureau to draft regulations and procedures to license the new cannabis market and state officials have acknowledged problems, including the refusal of most cities to allow cannabis sales, that have led to many fewer licenses than expected. High state and local taxes that add up to 45% to the cost of licensed cannabis have also stymied the legal market.

image The Weed Blog - Cannabis Education & News

Still, Ajax said, the bureau has done “tremendous ” work “in accomplishing our mandate to develop a comprehensive regulatory system under challenging conditions.”

A new audit by the state Department of Finance also concluded that the bureau’s staffing and facilities are “not sustainable to provide effective and comprehensive oversight of cannabis activities throughout California.”

Auditors said a recent check found the bureau’s Enforcement Unit had filled only 15 of its 68 authorized positions. The bureau says it has filled 26 positions so far — still less than half those authorized.

“With the existing number of Enforcement Unit staff and only one field office, the Bureau’s ability to process complaints, perform inspections and investigations, and review and inspect testing laboratories is severely impacted,” the audit said.

Bureau officials note their first year was focused primarily on creating, staffing and implementing a complex licensing system. But there are also other issues that are an impediment.

The bureau does not employ any sworn peace officers, so to enforce the law it relies on help from local law enforcement.

Last month, the Costa Mesa Police Department served search warrants for the bureau on two unlicensed pot shops, and authorities seized $2.7 million worth of cannabis products, the biggest single-day haul ever by the bureau.

Separate enforcement efforts targeting illegal cannabis grows have been mounted by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, which last month joined the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office in serving 15 warrants. The operations seized 12,548 illegal marijuana plants, 801 pounds of processed marijuana, 15 firearms and $435,875 in cash, according to the agency.

Robinson said her group would like to see more effort involving retail shops. The trade group was disappointed that the new state budget signed by Newsom last month does not include the industry’s proposal to add $10 million for enforcement targeting unlicensed retailers and to give the bureau sworn peace officers to enforce the law.

Newsom’s office did not respond to requests for comment on the budget, staffing and enforcement issues.

Opponents of Proposition 64, including Scott Chipman of the group Americans Against Legalizing Marijuana, say lax enforcement targeting illegal pot shops is breaking a promise of the initiative’s backers that the new law would allow the state to rein in the illicit market.

Critics point to research by the firm New Frontier Data, which estimated California’s black market was worth $3.7 billion last year — more than four times the size of the legal market.

“A key point of Proposition 64 was to reduce or nearly eliminate the black market,” Chipman said. “The opposite has occurred. We are the marijuana drug cartel for the U.S.”

Ajax says the new law signed by Newsom increasing fines for illegal operators “expanded [the agency’s] enforcement tools” and will help make the bureau’s crackdown more effective.

The tougher enforcement is being paired with a new public education campaign by the bureau dubbed “Get #weedwise” that encourages consumers to purchase cannabis from licensed firms and warns unlicensed businesses that they face consequences if they are not licensed.

Ads on YouTube, cannabis websites and those soon to be on billboards warn consumers about such pitfalls as chemicals and mold that can be found in illegal, untested cannabis.

To help consumers, the bureau has set up a website, CApotcheck.com, where consumers can verify the legal status of a cannabis business.

The campaign is also warning illegal businesses that they could face confiscation of cash and cannabis if they continue to engage in unlicensed activity, Ajax said.

“We believe that this campaign will directly impact consumer safety by clarifying that only cannabis purchased from licensed retailers has met the state’s safety standards, while sending a clear message to unlicensed businesses that they need to get licensed or shut down,” Ajax said.

The ingredients for our recipes are carefully selected in collaboration with experienced cooks in order to maximize the benefits of CBD for your body. What you need to know regardless of the recipe and ingredients is that you have to Absolutely heat your trim before adding it to your dishes if you want to sprinkle a dish already ready. There is no need to do this since you will mix your CBD with the dough that will go into the oven.

Why heat? Simply because before being heated, the CBD is not activated and is actually a molecule called CBDa. We’ll talk about it in more detail in a later article.

Our goal is also to make you discover simple recipes that you probably already know by simply adding the flavor of cannabis to make you discover a new world of culinary possibilities. Ready for an unusual dessert? Here we go.

CBD Promotes Healthy Stress Response

CBD Helps Relieve Stress

In today’s fast moving society, we as individuals are met with everyday challenges and situations that can put a ton of stress on ourselves; and as many of you know, stress is one of the worse things on our body – leading to  anxiety, high blood pressure, illnesses, deterioration of the mind and body, and so much more. With that being said, it is extremely important to maintain stress levels so that we can live long, happy, healthy lives. Along with activities such as meditation, yoga, controlled breathing exercises, and fitness; CBD helps relieve stress, and more importantly, helps promote a healthy stress response.

How CBD Promotes a Healthy Stress Response

According to Leafly, “Cannabinoid receptors (CB1, CB2, TRPV1, GP55 and others) and the biochemical machinery necessary to synthesize and generate cannabinoids are present within areas of the brain known to control emotional behavior, mood, sleep, stress, irritability, fear and even the sensation of ‘craving.’ These structures include the prefrontal cortex, amygdala, hippocampus, nucleus accumbens, and periaqueductal gray (PAG) of the midbrain. Several lines of evidence in mice and other animals have clearly demonstrated that activation of cannabinoid receptors within the brain lowers heart rate and blood pressure responses to stress and reduces panic and anxiety behavior.” In simpler terms, research shows that CBD usage can help combat the well-known “fight or flight” phenomenon to physical and mental stress. Leafly further notes that Other studies using similar models in animals have shown that CBD usage can decrease fear-avoidant and conditioned responses to pain or punishment.

This opens the door for a ton of practical and helpful usages for CBD. In another study, CBD was even proven to reduce the stress and anxiety caused from public speaking, while negating anxiety caused from other substances such as the usage of THC.

The Future of CBD

In the years to come, the world will only continue to move faster and faster. Just because we aren’t stressed out about being chased by a lion like our ancestors were, we do face daily challenges that cause an immense amount of stress such as losing a job, driving in traffic, managing our money, and other modern day problems. It is this stress that will wear down our bodies, and it is our duty to take care of ourselves. As the research continues to stack up confirming CBD as a natural agent for relieving so many benefits, many will turn to CBD instead of other conventional methods like medications, alcohol, and drug usage.
